World Archery visits potential sites for Rome 2024 archery competition

World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen and World Archery Events Director Chris Marsh travelled to Rome to meet with World Archery First Vice President Mario Scarzella, Francesco Romussi from the Italian Olympic Committee and Rome 2024 representative Edoardo Quadri.

Accompanied by officials from the Italian archery federation, the group assessed potential host sites for archery should Rome win its bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Places visited included the Arch of Constantine, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Circus Maximus and Baths of Caracalla.

“Several of the locations close to the Colosseum showed great potential as a memorable and iconic venue,” said Tom Dielen.

World Archery’s international events are held in stunning and unusual locations. Previous venues have included the Eiffel Tower, Edinburgh Castle and, in 2015, Copenhagen’s Christiansborg Palace and the Zocalo in the centre of Mexico City.

“We will now work with the bid committee to determine the choice for the final proposal, which works best for the city and the sport. We will, of course, do the same with the other four bids,” added Tom.
