Lin, Wei top Asian Cup recurve ranking rounds

Chinese Taipei’s Lin Shih-Chia and Wei Chun-Heng, who both made their Olympic debuts in Rio, topped the recurve women’s and men’s ranking rounds at the 2017 Asia Cup event in Bangkok, Thailand. Lin scored 668 and Wei an impressive 690 points out of a possible 720.

“We’ve just finished a series of national competitions so I’ve been focusing on the details. This performance is kind of normal,” said Lin, who secured an Olympic bronze medal as part of the Chinese Taipei women’s team in Rio and was individual and mixed team runner-up at the worlds in Copenhagen in 2015.

“The Tokyo Olympics are a long way away but I will keep focusing on each event, step by step, starting with the Asian Games next year.”

Lin’s 668-point 72-arrow 70-metre qualification in Bangkok was 14 ahead of second ranked Promila Daimary of India. Kazakhstan’s Farida Tukebayeva ranked third on 653 and Lin’s Chinese Taipei teammate Tan Ya-Ting was fourth on 652.

Sixteen points behind Wei over the men’s round was Artem Makhnenko of Russia on 674, for second, with Malaysia’s Khairul Anuar Mohamad securing rank three with 672.

The compound competition in Bangkok, which begins on Wednesday 22 March, also acts as the last qualification tournament for the upcoming World Games in Wroclaw, Poland.

The first leg of the 2017 Asia Cup takes place 20-25 March in Bangkok, Thailand.
