Lopez’ match score not ratified as world record

Sara Lopez’ recent matchplay score of 150 points with 11Xs, shot during Colombia’s world championship team selections, has not been approved as a compound women’s world record due to not meeting ratification requirements.

According to the World Archery rulebook, matches must be shot during a registered head-to-head elimination tournament to be eligible. Her score was set while competing in a non-eligible round robin format.

The record remains hers, though, at 150 points with 10Xs.

“As it’s not valid it gives me the chance to do it again,” said Lopez. “I know I can do it again, and my dream is actually to make a 150-point match in a gold medal final at a World Archery event.”

“Scoring 150 is very difficult, especially when you have to do it with more than 10X, but if I did it once, I can do it again.”

“If Reo [Wilde], Mike [Schloesser] and Stephan [Hansen] can do it, why can’t I?”

Lopez, 22, added a third Hyundai Archery World Cup Champion title and won the World Games in 2017, but was usurped from her top spot in the world ranking mid-way through the season after spending 1033 days as number one.

As of the start of September 2017, she owns four of the seven available compound women’s outdoor world records.

“If you add together my senior and youth world records, I have 11. I would like to keep fighting to have them all, but I know how difficult it is. I just want to do my best and, hopefully, shoot the first perfect-720 [ranking round] in history,” added Lopez.

The world number two is next expected to compete at the 2017 World Archery Championships in Mexico City.
