India to shoot for 1st gold medal of World Cup season

India’s compound women’s team have qualified to shoot in the gold medal match at the second stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup season in Antalya, Turkey on Friday 25 May.

If Divya Dhayal, Muskan Kirar and Jyothi Surekha Vennam beat Chinese Taipei on the Turkish beach, they will bring home India’s first title on the circuit this season.

“We are very happy because we have performed very well and reached the finals. As a team our scores are really good,” said Vennam.

The Indian trio posted totals of 227, 234 and 233 points, each out of a possible 240, in the elimination phases – closing with a dominant performance over hosts Turkey in the semifinals.

“Making the finals on the World Cup gives us confidence for the upcoming Asian Games,” added Vennam.

India’s recurve women will shoot for bronze in Antalya – also against a team from Chinese Taipei.

The second stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Antalya, Turkey on 20-26 May.
