Tanja Jensen seeds top in Shanghai with personal best of 703 points

Tanja Jensen scored 703 out of a possible 720 points for the 72-arrow 50-metre ranking round, a competition personal best, to finish top of the compound women’s ranking round at the second stage of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Shanghai, China.

“I knew it was really close with other girls going into the last end, so I was like, ‘okay, just shoot really good shots and they should hit the middle’,” said Tanja.

The Danish archer, who arrived in Shanghai only five hours before the start of qualification after spending the weekend shooting 3D in Redding, USA, was tied with Turkey’s Yesim Bostan on 643 points with six arrows left to shoot.

Tanja finished with a perfect 60, world number one Yesim with 59.

“I came straight from a tournament in California, went straight to the hotel, took a shower, had lunch and then came here, so it feels awesome,” said Jensen.

Second seed Bostan, shooting at her first international event of the 2019 season, said she could have done more.

“I made bad shots in my first half and I don’t know why. Maybe because of the wind or maybe it was just me not shooting well,” she said. “But then, I tried to do better shots, feel them and execute my technique properly, and that helped me a lot.”

The remainder of the compound women’s top eight was comprised of Toja Ellison, Kim Yunhee, So Chaewon, Choi Bomin, Viktoria Balzhanova and Alexis Ruiz.

Korea, the USA and Chinese Taipei took the top three seeds in the compound women’s team event.

The second stage of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Shanghai, China on 6-12 May.
