First arrow shot at Royal Artillery Barracks

On the second official day of athlete training at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the first arrow was shot on the practice range at the archery competition and training venue—the Royal Artillery Barracks.   While the venue officially opened at 13:00 on 22 August 2012, Paralympic athletes spent the day arriving and familiarising themselves with their home for the duration of the Games—the Athlete Village. It was just after 9:00 this morning that Mohd Zafi MAT SALEH shot the first arrow on the newly-finished training field.   Competition manager Chris MARSH presented the Malaysian archer with a packet of Cadbury’s Heroes to mark the occasion (photo). This is MAT SALEH’s first Paralympic Games, competing in the recurve men W1/W2 category, after he qualified in 17th place at the World Archery Para Championships held in Turin in 2011.   The Paralympic archery event will run from 31 August to 5 September 2012 at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich.   Source: London 2012 Edited by World Archery Communication
