World Archery Championships 2011 Turin - Welcome

World Archery Championships Turin (ITA) - 3-10 July 2011   Sergio CHIAMPARINO    Welcome In 2011 Turin is honoured to host archers, coaches, managers of sports federations and all those who, as professionals, enthusiasts or simply as spectators, will take part in the World Archery Championships and the equivalent competition for Paralympic athletes.

The event is presented as the most important sports event hosted by Turin in the year when Italy celebrates the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of its reunion. A sports event that, even in the choice of venues, seems to fit perfectly into the calendar of events dedicated to the historical celebration. The grounds of this amazing challenge are directly connected to the events and personalities of the Italian Risorgimento: Piazza Castello, the old parade ground in the heart of the city which is overlooked by Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama, and other symbolic buildings of baroque age and the eighteenth-century hunting residence of Stupinigi, which is one of the Savoy palaces designed by Filippo Juvarra. Both venues will be stages for the performance of the world’s best archers starting on 1 July 2011.   Giuseppe SBRIGLIO    Every year our city is a home of prestigious sporting events that have great international acclaim, such as the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2006, the World Fencing Championships held the same year, the World University Winter Games in 2007 and the European Indoor Archery Championships in 2008. Turin hosted the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2009 and the World Figure Skating Championships and Volleyball World Championships in 2010.

All events proved successful and high rating as, we are sure, will be the case with the World Archery Championships. We are confident that we will be able to meet the expectations of the national delegations and leaders, technicians and athletes who will come to Turin next July. We will organise excellent sports facilities. All the participants will have the opportunity to spend a few days in a beautiful city, hospitable rich in history and culture.

We look forward to welcoming you to Turin.

Sergio CHIAMPARINO, Mayor of the City of Turin
Giuseppe SBRIGLIO, Councillor for Sports City of Turin
