New World Cup ranking following stage 3 in Ogden

The Archery World Cup comprises four stages that will allow the top 7 athletes (maximum 2 per country) per category to qualify for the Final in Istanbul. They will be joined by one wild card from Turkey. The best mixed teams of the season will also travel to Istanbul to challenge the host. Moreover, the Longines Prize for Precision will be awarded this year to the two compound athletes (one man, one woman) who shoot the most 10s during the World Cup.

The rankings have been updated following the Archery World Cup Stage 3 that concluded on 6 August in Ogden, Utah (USA). The archers will have one more opportunity to gather points, at the stage 4 in Shanghai from 5-10 September. The World Cup Final will take place in Istanbul on 24-25 September.

Recurve Men
In Ogden, the 2010 World Cup champion Brady ELLISON (USA) photo won his third consecutive World Cup stage after Porec and Antalya. With 75 points, he is of course already qualified for Istanbul. Dmytro HRACHOV (UKR), who was 3rd before Ogden, climbed to 2nd place thanks to his silver-medal performance. His total of 39 points means he will also qualify for Istanbul no matter what happens in Shanghai. The competition is open behind these two archers. Previously 2nd, OH Jin-Hyek did not compete in Ogden and subsequently lost one rank. In 4th place is the young Gael PREVOST, who has 26 points thanks to his making the quarterfinals in both Antalya and Ogden. DAI Xiaoxiang is 5th just one point behind (25), followed by Viktor RUBAN and Joe FANCHIN, tied at 23, the latter climbing several ranks thanks to his bronze medal from Ogden. These archers will be threatened by Korea’s KIM Woojin (8 with 21 points) and IM Dong-Hyun (10th with 16), who were absent in Ogden but will be hoping to win more points in Shanghai. Other possible finalists include Laurence GODFREY (GBR), 9th with 18 points, as well as Jake KAMINSKI (USA) and the 4th archer from Ogden Markiyan IVASHKO (UKR), tied in 11th place at 15 points.

Recurve Women
In this category the top three of the ranking haven’t changed after Ogden. Three Korean archers are leading the field, more than 10 points ahead of their followers despite not having competed in Ogden. There will for sure be two Koreans in Istanbul, however because of the 2 archers per country rule, it is not yet known who among HAN Gyeonghee, JUNG Dasomi and KI Bo Bae will qualify. The competition is very open behind the Koreans, with the archers ranked 4th to 9th spanned over only 10 points. Maja JAGER (DEN) climbed to 4th place thanks to her good performance at the Ogden stage. The winner of that competition CHENG Ming from China, who was previously absent from the ranking, follows in 5th. In 6th are Deepika KUMARI, runner-up in Ogden, and Pia Carmen LIONETTI (ITA) at 21 points. A bronze medalist in Utah, Alejandra VALENCIA (MEX) is 8th. Finally, four archers are tied in 9th place with 15 points: Kateryna PALEKHA (UKR), Natalia VALEEVA (ITA), Aida ROMAN (MEX) and Ren HAYAKAWA (JPN).

Recurve Mixed Team
The winner is this category will be decided in Shanghai. The USA, winner in Ogden, are leading the ranking with 31 points. They will face tough competition from the Korea, second with 26 points. If the USA advance to the gold medal final they will qualify for Istanbul regardless of their opponents’ result in Shanghai.

Compound Men
The leader in this category is Rodger WILLETT Jr. (USA), who won his third straight individual World Cup stage in Ogden and is already qualified for Istanbul. He is followed by Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA), 2nd with 38 points. The archers ranked 3th to 7th are very close to each other, with only 4 points separating them. Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA), previously 10th, climbed to 3rd thanks to his silver medal in Ogden. Tying GELLENTHIEN in 3rd is Reo WILDE (USA), who earned 15 points in Ogden with his 3rd place. Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN) follows in 4th, and Sergio PAGNI is 6th. Paul TITSCHER (GER) occupies the last provisional qualifying spot. Outside of the top 7 but still in the run for Istanbul are Amir KAZEMPOOR (IRI), 8th, Martin DAMSBO (DEN), 9th, Roberto HERNANDEZ (ESA), 10th and Seppie CILLIERS (RSA), 11th. The newly crowned world champion Christopher PERKINS (CAN) is in 16th place but could qualify for the final if he wins in Shanghai.

In the top 7 are two archers from Iran, two from the USA, two from Italy and one from Russia. Iran’s Parsamehr MAHTAB photo is already qualified with 51 points, thanks to good results in Porec and Ogden and a victory in Antalya, and so is Laura LONGO (ITA), 2nd with 49 points. They are followed by the silver and gold medallists from Ogden, respectively : Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) is 3rd of the World Cup ranking at 46 points and Marcella TONIOLI (ITA) 4th with a total of 42.
