New free archery books for the iPad on the iBookstore

The first book is their pathway programme and the second is Book 3 of the World Archery Rules. The new iBooks follow on the successful release of the SANAA Long Term Development Programme on the iBookstore, based on the World Archery Feathers and Arrows.     According to Dr Selwyn MOSKOVITZ, President of SANAA, the route of the iPad was taken because of the features that it offers; and the observation, that more often than not, the iPad will accompany the archer to the range.   "By making our pathway programme available on the iBookstore, we hope to encourage more youth to take an interest in our sport. The added visibility on a technologically advanced forum has obvious benefits", he said.   "On the other hand, the decision to put our most popular rule book (Book 3) on the iPad has a number of advantages for both the judge and the archer. The most significant is probably the search facility and the ability to bookmark any section, or to amplify any section or articles with notes. This makes for quick, easy retrieval and cross referencing of rules."   The rule book was used verbatim, ensuring conformity with the printed version which is available on the World Archery website.   In designing the version of the rulebook for the iPad, consideration was taken for those who are visually impaired, with features such as allowing the user to use larger fonts without any loss of quality. This feature is significant as it allows judges who normally wear spectacles to reduce their dependency. Easy reference can be made to all chapters of the rule books, and the search and locate functions are lightning fast.   "All the images, from the match play charts to the target layout are included, with care taken to ensure that the download is confined to minimal size. We have also ensured compatibility with older iPads and with the new Retina Display", MOSKOVITZ added.   "We understand that the rules change from time to time, and we have made use of the facility that allows the iPad owner, to be alerted to, and updated with changes. A simple screen touch on the iBookstore 'Alert me' button, will ensure that the rule book changes are updated to the iPad".   Book 3 of the World Archery rules is available on this link and the pathway programme on this link.   Selwyn MOSKOVITZ South African National Archery Association Edited by World Archery Communication   Caption for screen shot: The rule book also becomes intuitive, using indexing, which allows articles relating to the search to appear. For example, if you were to search for the word "Highest", it would give you the option to choose from highest portion, highest ranked, highest score etc. Then selecting any search keyword, the article, along with the page number and reference, highlighting the search words, will be listed. This whole process is automated and speeds up lookups tremendously. Judges who have used the iBook during the test phase have been overwhelmed by its simplicity.
