Jialing Qian (CHN): recurve women gold

When I compete against the Korean archers, I feel motivated and strong. I have been competing at the world level since 2004 but I still lack a bit of consistency so I don’t have the chance to shoot against the Koreans in semi-finals or finals very often. However, with my two wins here I think it gives me a 5-2 winning record against them. Of course, my long-term goal is to do well at the Beijing Olympic in 2008, but with my win here I want to make it to the World Cup Final 2006 in Mexico. I come fromShanghai and I am looking forward to getting a good result in the World Cup Series there.

Yavor Hirstov (BUL): recurve men bronze

I thought I could do well here, but I am a little surprise to have done so well. I lost twice to Frangilli in the past, so I am very happy that I could win against such a great champion of archery.

Roberval Dos Santos (BRA): compound men gold

I was the first Brazilian to shoot in a final of such an elite competition so this morning I was very nervous. I feel fortunate I shot well in the final. I think during the shoot-off, my heart was beating as fast as ever. After so many 10s by both archers, it is incredible that it came down to the very last arrow of the shoot-off and that the judges had to measure. I was so nervous that I shot my last arrow a bit too quick. It was only a 9. Fortunately for me, Peter didn’t do better but I feel sorry for him I won with a 9 after such an exciting my match.

Peter Elzinga (NED): compound men silver

Of course, first place is better than second, but it was really an exciting match. I was told it came down to only 4 millimeters… I am happy with my performance and I hope for a revenge in San Salvador !

Patrizio Hofer (SUI): compound men bronze

The sun was difficult to deal with for me, because I am a lefty and we shot late in the afternoon. The sun was in my face. At my last arrow I could not see the target so I am happy an 8 was enough to win the match. I would thank everybody in the stands who gave me a great support !

Jorge Jimenez (ESA): compound men, 4th place

I started a little nervous. My first three arrows were all over the target. Patrizio didn’t let me any chance to come back after this, although I shot a perfect 30 in my last three arrows. In San Salvador, my home country, I hope to do even better and reach the final for gold. We expect to have many spectators as the final will be shot in a football stadium.

Nicola Simpson (GBR): compound women bronze

The Russian team is so strong I am just happy I could beat one of them in my bronze medal match. It was great here with the cheering and the TV but I could stay 100% focused. The wind conditions were actually easier than previously in the week. I will go to San Salvador and I hope to qualify for the World Cup final.
