Morning storylines: Bow juggling, families in junior event

Alex WIFLER (USA) is back shooting recurve after a stint on the compound line for a few months last year. In those few months, though, he climbed the podium at the Wuxi youth worlds and set a new junior world record!

An accident that broke his middle finger made recurve archery impossible – and while the young States athlete was lighting up the compound ranks, he assured us it was just a vacation from his true vocation… the recurve bow.

Among WIFLER’s toughest opponents in Nimes is Dan OLARU, flagbearer for Moldova at London 2012. The 17-year-old has already won continent medals and is hot tip to pick up a world podium soon.

Bridger DEATON, compound team silver medallist in Wuxi with WIFLER, has a world title from Vegas 2012 to defend. He’ll have to fend off the European trio that kept him out of the medals in Wuxi, Domagoj BUDEN (CRO), Renaud DOMANSKI (BEL) and Mario VAVRO (CRO). That America versus Europe battle undertone in the senior compound competition is alive in the junior ranks, too.

For BUDEN, there is another battle going on, of a more personal nature. Following in his big sister Ivana’s footsteps, Domagoj has medals from outdoor and field world championships – but he has a chance to go one up on her here. Neither of the siblings have won an indoor world medal to date.

Junior qualification takes place this morning, with the seniors heading to the field in the afternoon. Follow the competition using the links below.
