Bridger DEATON: seeking gold and much more

“Having my title to defend really increases the desire to win… again,” says Bridger DEATON. Despite a few errors, he seems happy with 593 that earned him the top spot in qualification today.

This event is DEATON’s last as a junior. After breaking team world records and medalling at the World Youth Championships in Wuxi last October, the American is getting ready for his first outdoor season in the senior ranks.

At almost 20 years old, DEATON will join Braden GELLENTHIEN and Reo WILDE on the United States team for the upcoming Shanghai and Medellin World Cups – leaving archery legends Jesse BROADWATER and Dave COUSINS fighting for the final spot.

“This is one of the best junior teams we’ve had in a long time, probably since I was a junior,” remarks GELLENTHIEN.

“The new wave of juniors that are athletes before archers is scaring. I’m not looking forward to the future. The competition is going to really step up. I train as much as I can to stay ahead of them.”

Ukraine’s Mariya SHKOLNA led the compound junior women’s ranking after qualification with 587. See full results from qualification.
