New name on OROSZ’s favourite hat: his own?

“I hate shoot-offs”, confesses Viktor OROSZ. The 15-year-old compounder surprised everyone, including himself, by taking gold in his first world championships. “I just did what I like to: shoot.”

He shot the final wearing a cap signed by Martin DAMSBO (DEN), Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA), Mike SCHLOESSER (NED) and more, all archers he looks up to.

The match had not started well for OROSZ: he trailed Croatian Mario VAVRO after one set, but two perfect sets that followed put him back in the game.

After the regulation five sets, the match sat at 5-all – and even a shoot-off wasn’t enough to separate the pair when they shot identical 10s. A second 10 in the second one-arrow sudden-death showdown handed OROSZ the win. A first world gold for the Hungarian, and maybe soon he’ll be signing his own name on fans’ hats.

Mario VAVRO added another medal to the team bronze he won in the morning. Fourth at Legnica 2011 and Val d’Isère 2012, individual bronze medallist at Wuxi 2013 and second today, indoors, the archer should win gold the next time… if he continuous on his current statistical trajectory!

Defending champion Bridger DEATON won bronze after team gold in the morning session.

Mariya SHKOLNA won the women’s gold medal. The schoolgirl from Lviv, best in the ranking round, was strong against Emily BEE (USA). Lexi KELLER, also USA, won bronze.
