“I’m the world champion, I shot great during eliminations… that gold medal is mine,” a confident VALLADONT said!

The Frenchman beat his teammate Jerome BIDAULT 68-52 to make the world field champs gold final in Zagreb, and to meet Olympic team silver medallist Brady ELLISON – who led the qualification rounds.

“Brady is a tough one to beat, but we have met before,” said VALLADONT. “We know each other, we are both doing great… It’s going to be a close match.”

ELLISON had a good week and is pumped for his shot at a first world field title: “VALLADONT got me last year at the World Games. Let’s see who jumps out on Sunday and gets the early lead, but I think it’s going to be very close until the end.”

The bronze medal match will be between former world champ Jon SHALES (GBR) and BIDAULT.

In the compound division, Jesse BROADWATER has been the top US archer, first shooting impressive scores in the qualifications where he was ranked first, and then again during the eliminations.

Jesse will shoot against Great Britain’s Chris WHITE for gold. It’s the 10th anniversary of when WHITE won the world field championships – in Croatia, too.

“I put a lot of effort into the training for this event. It would be great if I can make it,” an enthusiastic WHITE said! Steve ANDERSON (USA) is shoots for bronze against Val d’Isere silver medalist Slavko TURSIC (SLO), in his first ever appearance at the event.

German Lisa UNRUH beat Great Britain’s Naomi FOLKARD 54-53 in the semifinals. She retained her top qualification spot and will meet Laure DELAFU (FRA) in the final, who beat Italian Anna BOTTO in a shoot-off.

Croatia’s Ivana BUDEN will defend her compound crown at home in front of family and friends against World Cup finalist Toja CERNE (SLO). CERNE has led the compound women since the start of the qualification rounds.

The gold medal match in the barebow men’s category will be between Swedish pairing of OTTOSON and JONSSON, who stayed strong during eliminations – as expected. Ben ROGERS (USA) and Michael FISHER (AUS) shoot for bronze.

The barebow women’s favourite, Italian Eleonora STROBBE, lost to Sweden’s Lina BJORKLUND in the semis. She’ll still have a chance at a podium, though, when she shoots for bronze against Cinzia NOZIGLIA (ITA). France’s Eliette LALOUER faces BJORKLUND for gold.

Individual finals take place on Sunday, 22 August at Park Maksimir in Zagreb.
