Denmark and Korea to shoot in Mexico City mixed team event

A total of thirty-two top athletes – including four representing the host nation – will receive individual invitations to shoot at the 2015 Archery World Cup Final in Mexico City from 23-25 October.

In addition of each of the four Archery World Cup competition divisions – compound and recurve men and women – one international compound mixed team and one recurve mixed team will also compete, against pairs representing the host nation, Mexico.

Like individual athletes, mixed teams also collect points through all the different stages of the Archery World Cup circuit.

Ahead of Medellin’s leg, Denmark and Colombia were the two compound pairs in the race to the final, with 36 and 24 ranking points, respectively. When Sara Lopez and Camilo Cardona lost to India in the quarterfinals, any hope of catching up that eight-point deficit was lost.

The Danes won both Antalya and Wroclaw mixed team gold, and finished fourth in Shanghai. In Medellin – represented by Martin Damsbo and Erika Anear – Denmark lost to India in the first round.

Throughout the season, the Danish mixed team line-up has also included Stephan Hansen, Sarah Holst Sonnischsen and Tanja Jensen.

“It’s really nice that we made it to the Finals. That’s something we didn’t come to fight for in Medellin – as we are focused on the individual competition, so it’s great for our country to have the chance,” said recently crowned World Archery Champion Hansen.

“I’m pretty sure whichever of us that travels there will give a great show against Mexico’s mixed team, and we will definitely fight for the gold.”

Dominant recurve team Korea secured its mixed team qualification to Mexico after making it to the gold medal match in Medellin against China.

Korea collected maximum points in Shanghai and Antalya, winning gold at both stages.

With the official first team already training in Rio for the Olympic text event – that will be held in the week after Medellin – none of coaches in Colombia dare to venture which athletes will appear in the mixed team match. They believe it will be based on results and the top man and woman will be the chosen.

That would mean Kim Woojin and Choi Misun, who both lead their respective recurve World Cup rankings. Although Lee Seungyun and Olympic Champion Ki Bo Bae have also qualified for Mexico City 2015 as individuals.

Both Denmark and Korea’s mixed teams will shoot against Mexican teams named by the hosts.
