World Archery President re-elected to ASOIF Council

World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener was re-elected to the Council of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations for a four-year term during the organisation’s General Assembly, held at SportAccord Convention, in Aarhus, Denmark on 4 April.

“I’d like to thank my colleagues from the sport movement for their vote of confidence in me and the work of the ASOIF Council,” said Prof Dr Erdener.

“Despite the challenges facing international sports, the projects undertaken by ASOIF in terms of studies and evaluation in recent years has provided huge benefit for federations. Together with the IOC we have been able to make pragmatic steps forward for the future of the Olympic Movement and I’m looking forward to continuing that work.”

CK Wu was also re-elected to the ASOIF Council, while Seb Coe and Marisol Casado joined as new members.

Discussions at the ASOIF General Assembly focused on projects to assess and improve the governance structures of international sports federations and work with the International Olympic Committee that will shape how the Games are organised in the future. Delegates were also given presentations by representatives from Los Angeles and Paris, the two cities bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Prof Dr Erdener was also recently re-elected as President of the Turkish Olympic Committee, and services as a Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, a WADA Executive Committee Member, WADA Foundation Board Member and takes responsibility for the Olympic Movement’s representation in WADA.

He has been World Archery President since 2005.
