Ochoa-Anderson shoots 703; leads Berlin seeding

Linda Ochoa-Anderson topped the compound women’s ranking round at the fourth leg of the 2017 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Berlin, Germany, scoring 703 out of a possible 720 points and taking advantage of the absence of world number one and recent World Games gold medallist Sara Lopez

Ochoa was the only woman to go over 700 for the round. Amelie Sancenot came second with on 698, and Paige Gore third with 695 points.

“I felt really good shooting and at the end I just wanted to finish strong, and I think I did well,” said Linda, who upped her international competition best for the second straight event after shooting 700 in Wroclaw. “I knew I could be better.”

Amelie Sancenot’s 698 was also a personal best.

“I remained focused on myself without paying attention to the scores, and tried to keep the same rhythm as in the first end," she said.

Ochoa’s Mexico came in just ahead of the USA in the compound women’s team seedings. Third-ranked individual Gore and teammate Cassidy Cox, fourth, buoyed a resurgent second half after the pair found themselves in 15th and 13th after 36 arrows.

“The conditions were awsome today compared to other events we went to recently where we the conditions were not so good, so it's enjoyable here,” said Gore.

Jyothi Surekha VennamTanja JensenToja Ellison, and Marcella Tonioli also received top eight byes, the latter after beating 16-year-old Amanda Mlinaric – the youngest competitor in Berlin – in a shoot-off to decide seeding.

The Croatian, and double cadet world record holder, made a promising senior debut at her first World Cup event: “I'm very happy with my qualification round, with my second best score this season.”

The fourth stage of the 2017 Hyundai Archery World Cup runs 8 to 13 August in Berlin, Germany.
