Sanne de Laat wins 1st individual World Cup medal

Sanne de Laat beat Mexico’s Linda Ochoa-Anderson to win compound women’s bronze and her first ever individual medal on the Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit at Berlin 2017.

“I’m flattered, I guess,” said Sanne. “I feel very happy. I didn’t realised I was winning until after the fourth end, I heard I was three points ahead of her, so I just thought ‘keep it in the yellow and you’ll be fine’.”

After the first four arrows, Sanne trailed top seed Linda, who opened with a perfect 30, by a point.

Linda opened her third end with an eight; Sanne shot a perfect 30 and grabbed the lead. With two beautiful 10Xs and eight in the fifth end, to Linda’s 10-9-9, she collected bronze.

“I’m always aiming for gold but bronze is good, of course. I hope I can make the World Championships in Mexico, that’s the goal after Berlin,” said Sanne.

The fourth stage of the 2017 Hyundai Archery World Cup runs 8 to 13 August in Berlin, Germany.
