USA compound junior women put 1 point on team world record

Alexis Ruiz, Cassidy Cox and Sophia Strachan scored 2042 out of a possible 2160 points to beat the compound junior women’s ranking round world record by a single point during qualifying at the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships in Rosario, Argentina.

The previous world-best score, also held by the US, was shot at the last youth worlds in Yankton in 2015.

“It is really awesome and I'm proud of my team for shooting so well. There have been so many great teams who have shot at youth worlds so it is cool to know that we shot well enough to set a record,” said Cox.

Cassidy, who added that she didn’t think the morning’s conditions were up to scratch for a record score, only had her bow arrive the night before qualifying.

Ruiz seeded top individually on 691 points in Rosario, Cox fourth with 679 and Strachan 12th on 672.

The USA’s compound junior women’s team is the defending World Archery Champion, having won the event in 2015, 2013, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2002, 2000 and 1996, which is eight of the 10 times the medal has been awarded.

The 2017 World Archery Youth Championships run 2 to 10 October in Rosario, Argentina.
