Secretary General elected Vice President of Paralympic Sports Association

World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen was elected as founding Vice President of the Association of Paralympic Sports Organisations at its board meeting in Lausanne on 8 November 2017. The association was formed at the IPC General Assembly to represent the interests of para sport federations.

“Archery was present at the founding of the Paralympic movement and para archery has grown with the Paralympic Games since 1960,” said Dielen.

“Para sport is now at a pivotal moment in its history, with a chance to take advantage of leaps in coverage and public interest over recent years.”

World Archery was one of 17 independent Paralympic federations to join the organisation, chaired by Fédération Equestre Internationale Secretary General Sabrina Ibáñez.

The international federation responsible for archery at the Olympics assumed responsibility of para archery from the International Paralympic Committee in 2009.

Since completing the transition, classification procedures have been modernised, two successful Paralympic Games in London and Rio held, and the international para archery tournament circuit has seen significant growth.
