Prof Erdener’s IOC status switched to individual member

World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener, who has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 2008, had his IOC membership status switched from international federation president to individual member at the Session in Pyeongchang on Wednesday 7 February 2018.

This means his IOC position is no longer reliant on his position as World Archery President.

"On behalf of the World Archery Family, I would like to congratulate our President for his change in role within the International Olympic Committee. It is testament to his valuable contributions to the wider Olympic Movement that his membership to the IOC becomes independent of his position in our sport," said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.

"However, we can rest assured that this does not mean he will be leaving World Archery anytime soon, following his recent re-election."

Prof Dr Erdener has been World Archery President since 2005 and was re-elected for a fourth consecutive term at the federation's Congress in Mexico City in 2017.

He also serves as a Vice President of the International Olympic Committee; President of the Turkish Olympic Committee; Vice President of the ASOIF Council; WADA Executive Committee Member, Foundation Board Member and responsible for the Olympic Movement's representation in WADA.
