Broadwater three-peats as Indoor World Cup Champion

Jesse Broadwater took his third compound men’s Indoor Archery World Cup Final title in a row, beating countryman Kris Schaff in front of a packed crowd at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa - although he thought he could shoot even better.

“I’m happy that I came away with the win, but I do think I could have shot even better. I felt like I left a lot of points out there that I shouldn’t have,” he said.

Both men had been drilling 10s relentlessly over the weekend, but the final saw some nines on the board.

“It’s always tough in a gold medal match, there’s always more pressure. I feel good about winning, but I still think I could have done a little bit better,” added Broadwater.

The event marked a third consecutive win on the indoor tour for Jesse, despite admitting that the tournament is not his highest priority of the weekend: “Every year I kind of put it on the back burner, I really don’t think about it too much before I come here, because my main focus is on The Vegas Shoot. Then Saturday night rolls around, and we’ve gotta get the [smaller diameter] 2315s out. It’s a great warm up for tomorrow.”

World Archery rules restrict competitors to a thinner arrow than they can use during The Vegas Shoot.

In the compound women’s competition, 2017 Vegas Champion Tanja Jensen could not top a quality performance from young Russian archer Alexandra Savenkova

Lisa Unruh capped a consistently high-quality indoor season and some quality matchplay with the recurve women’s gold medal over Sayana Tsyrempilova

Brady Ellison used all his considerable experience to get past archer-of-the-year (announced during the event) Steve Wijler in a spectacular semifinal, but couldn’t quite beat the Korean cadet Han Jaeyeop at his debut indoor Vegas tournament.

Han had 2016 Olympic Champion Ku Bonchan in the coach’s box as he took victory in five sets.

The fourth stage and final of the 2017/2018 Indoor Archery World Cup season takes place in Las Vegas, USA on 9-10 February; The Vegas Shoot concludes on 11 February.
