Chinese Taipei rides strong start to beat India

Chinese Taipei’s compound women’s team won gold on the rain-swept beach in Antalya, Turkey beating India by three points, 231-228, at the second stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final.

“I have a medal because I have two strong teammates.” said team anchor, third in the rotation, Lin Ming-Ching. “We work together. That’s what made the difference.”

Lin, Chen Yi-Hsuan and Chen Li Ju almost had the match wrapped up in the second end when India failed to find the 10 ring for five out of six shots, putting them five points behind, 117-112.

The Indian team recovered well in the next, drilling four arrows into the X-ring, but the damage was done, and Chinese Taipei eventually won by three points with two consistent final ends.

It was the Chinese Taipei team’s second consecutive gold medal match on the circuit, after losing gold to Russia in Shanghai at stage one.

In the bronze medal match, hosts Turkey started well against the Korean team, going a point ahead after 2015 World Archery Champion Choi Bomin posted a seven with her opening arrow.

The teams were neck and neck going into the final end, where Korea finished with 59 points to Turkey’s 56, prevailing, 227-224.

The second stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Antalya, Turkey on 20-26 May.
