Schaff says he’s “ready for anything” after Salt Lake pole

Kris Schaff topped the compound men’s ranking round at the third and his home stage of the 2018 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Salt Lake City, scoring 699 out of a possible 720 points for a 72-arrow 50-metre ranking round shot in extremely windy conditions.

“I had fun because of the turnout, but it’s never fun shooting in the wind. I did have a couple catch me but I didn’t shoot any in the eight today which was incredible,” said Schaff.

Reo Wilde seeded second with 695 and world number one Stephan Hansen of Denmark third on 693.

“I just kept my head in it all day today and didn’t make any silly shots,” said top-ranked Schaff, who travelled to Salt Lake straight from a tournament in California.

“I actually shot my first 150[-point perfect score in matchplay] this weekend when it was calm.”

“I’m ready for anything now. I shot good in the wind today, I shot good in the calm then so I’m ready for anything.

Abhishek Verma of India, Croatia’s Domagoj Buden, third USA archer Steve Anderson, Lin Che-Wei of Chinese Taipei and Russia’s Anton Bulaev – who finished with 689 points – rounded out the top eight.

The US took top seed in compound men’s team event, followed by France and then Mexico.

The third stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Salt Lake City, USA on 18-24 June.
