Sara Lopez shortlisted for World Games athlete of the year award
Of the 25 athletes and teams shortlisted, the top 10 will advance to a second round of voting on 15 January, which ends on 31 January.
Lopez was first nominated for the World Games’ athlete of the year award after her inaugural Hyundai Archery World Cup Final win in Lausanne in 2014. In 2018, she collected her fourth title on the circuit, matching Brady Ellison for the most by any archer throughout their career.
Although she will finish the year second in the world rankings behind Yesim Bostan, Lopez was unbeaten in international competition on the season.
The 23-year-old compound woman won Hyundai Archery World Cup stage gold medals in Shanghai and Salt Lake City before that fourth final in Samsun.
She also collected gold medals at the Pan American Championship, South American Games and Central American and Caribbean Games in 2018.
The World Games is a multisport event held every four years that features compound target archery, and recurve and barebow field archery on its programme. Lopez won the compound women’s gold medal at the last World Games held in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017.
