Education director Pascal Colmaire recovering after assault in Uganda

World Archery development and education director Pascal Colmaire is recovering in hospital in Geneva after being the victim of a violent assault in Uganda.

Pascal was delivering an Olympic Solidarity-supported level two coaching course in the capital of Kampala. On the last evening of the course, 3 September, he was walking nearby his hotel when he was attacked.

Although he has no memory of the incident, Pascal was left with several skull fractures and damaged eyesight. His mobile phone, money and credit cards were also taken.

Pascal spent three days in hospital in Kampala and then four days in Nairobi before subsequently being transferred back to Switzerland. He remains under hospital care in Geneva but is expected to return home soon to continue his recovery.

World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen said: “This was a senseless act of violence and a horrible thing to have happened to a kind and valued colleague. I am sure everyone will join me in wishing Pascal a full and fast recovery.”

“The help and support of the Ugandan Olympic Committee, Ugandan Archery Federation and Kenyan Archery Federation demonstrated a true Olympic community spirit and, on behalf of Pascal’s family, we thank everyone who contributed to getting him home safely.”

Any urgent enquiries regarding education projects should be directed to Tom Dielen while Pascal focuses on his recovery.
