Four British archery representatives carry the Olympic Torch

Thomas TAYLOR and Joanne ORBELL The London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay travelled from Nottingham to Derby on Friday, 29 July 2012 and from Derby to Birmingham on Saturday, 30 July. Several members of the British archery community were among the torchbearers during this journey through the Midlands. Four British archery representatives ran with the Olympic Torch in the last few days: the England Junior Archery Team manager Adam GUEST on 29 June, the member of the youth squad Thomas TAYLOR, the elite squad archer Glen CROFT, as well as the Youth Judge and National Technical Official for the Paralympic Games Joanne ORBELL on 30 June. Glen CROFT Glen CROFT, who placed 9th at the 2010 World University Championships and represented Great Britain at the Porec World Cup in 2011, described the experience as a torchbearer as "fantastic". "It was an amazing honour to be part of this", he said. After several members of the British archery community carried the Torch in May (Roger CRANG, Mel CLARKE, Alison WILLIAMSON MBE, and Wendy STEAD), several others are still planned among future torchbearers: Olympian archer Naomi FOLKARD (on 9 July in Oxford) will be carrying the Torch during its journey to the Olympic Stadium in London, along with others who include internationals archers Nicky HUNT (on 5 July in Ipswich) and retiring Junior Committee Chairman John WILLSON (on 6 July). The Archery GB senior coach Helen GEORGE, who has dedicated her life to coaching disabled sports stars, has been chosen to be a Paralympic Torchbearer. World Archery Communication
