Update on the Master Plan Preparation to 2016 Olympic Games

Fifteen bows and fifteen dozens of arrows have been donated to the Brazilian Archery Confederation to contribute to their Master Plan Rio 2016 (a preparation plan for the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro and supervised and coordinated by Peter NIEUWENHUIS, an expert in top performance programmes). This plan is supported by World Archery, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC) and the Olympic Solidarity. A level 3 coaching course was held from 30 May to 6 June 2012 in the Archery Centre of Marica (Rio de Janeiro) which was conducted by the World Archery Events Director, Mr Juan Carlos HOLGADO. Most of the participants, more than 20 coaches from all over Brazil, who previously attended a level 1 and 2 of coaching clinic attended this level 3 course. It was nice not only to see how these coaches improved in their coaches skills, but also seeing how this knowledge has currently improved the level of Brazilian archers in the different regions where these coaches are working. Atmosphere among the coaches is very good. Some of them have started to collaborate with the Head Coach of the Brazilian team, the Korean coach LIM, who has been contracted in 2010 and is working in Brazil since then. People responsible for the BOC programmes in Brazil came to visit the course. Three more seminars are expected to be held next year to establish a Coaches Education system and a development coaching structure in Brazil. All this has the goal to strongly support the Master Plan and its objectives for 2016. The Master Plan established in 2010 has already showed positives results and has been used by the BOC as an example to other Sport Federations in Brazil to show how to prepare and develop a sport for the Games in 2016.
