USA archer ZHU wins fans with bright, spiky hairstyle

USA archer Jia Hao ZHU has grabbed onlookers' attention during training at Kallang Field, thanks in no small part to his electrifying hairstyle.   ZHU, known as Ben after his aunt renamed him when he moved to the United States from China 14 years ago, sports a tall spiky cut dyed at the tips.   "It's not quite a mohawk because that's short at the sides," said ZHU. "It's more like a fauxhawk. David BECKHAM first, Ben today."   "When I first dyed it, it was bright white because I wanted it to match my bow. It's gone a little yellow in the sun and through washing it so I have no idea what colour it will go next."   The hairstyle has attracted a lot of interest at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.   "It takes about 10 minutes just to gel and everywhere I go people have been saying they like it. I think it looks pretty sick (good) too."   The 17-year-old from New York is hoping to perform well to put a smile on the face of his uncle, 2001 world indoor team champion Joseph McGLYN, who awakened ZHU's interest in the sport.   "My aunt and uncle are really into archery and one day they took me along to their club," said ZHU.   "The Youth Olympic Games is the biggest thing I've ever been involved in, so I want to shoot good here and make him proud."   YONS ap/ds Edited by World Archery Communication
