Archers wary of wind of change blowing across venue

Competitors and coaches are expecting tricky wind conditions when the archery competition gets underway at Kallang Field today.   With stands on two of the four sides and a giant screen close to the targets, the archers and their coaches will have to take unpredictable wind into account.

Denmark's Benjamin Hindborg IPSEN said being unable to feel the wind is confusing.   "It's hard because you can't really feel the wind when you're standing there, but it's definitely there at the target," he said. "But shooting with a bit of turbulence is all part of what we do."   United States coach Laval FALKS (USA) said the conditions will put more responsibility on coaches.   "It could be tricky because there is so much here to determine the flight of the arrow, like the stands and the jumbotron (giant screen)," he said. "This is where advice from coaches becomes so important.   "There is no practice on the actual field of play so the coach is critical. The coach who can judge the wind best and advise accordingly will make a real difference.   "Conditions could make for a really interesting competition."   Archers from 40 nations will compete in a ranking round this morning, before being paired off for the elimination round in the afternoon.   YONS ap/kt/rm Edited by World Archery Communication
