LEE and FRANGILLI in hunt for second Olympic golds

LEE Sung Jin (KOR) exults as she wins team event    The individual men’s and women’s events continue at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Tuesday with more 1/32 and 1/16 elimination rounds. LEE Sung Jin (KOR) and Michele FRANGILLI (ITA) will be hoping to add to their team gold medals.   Men’s competition   FRANGILLI shot 10 with the final arrow in the men’s team event to win the gold medal for Italy. He takes on Dmytro HRACHOV (UKR).   KIM Bubmin (KOR) broke the world record in the ranking round by shooting 698, but was overshadowed by his teammate IM Dong Hyun, who scored 699. He will start his individual campaign against Robert ELDER (FIJ) to try to improve on his team bronze medal.   Jacob WUKIE (USA) claimed silver in the team event and, after a strong ranking round, he is seeded 12th and an outsider for an individual medal. He faces Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND), who will be hoping to improve on India’s disappointing showing so far.   Teammates CHENG Chu Sian (MAS) and Khairul Anuar MOHAMAD (MAS) meet. The Malaysians were defeated by Mexico in the first round of the team event and, with Haziq KAMARUDDIN (MAS) already out of the individual event, at least one Malaysian will be sure of a place in the 1/16 elimination round.   Women’s competition   LEE Sung Jin was part of the successful Korea team on Sunday and is seeded second after the ranking round. She faces Maureen TUIMALEALIIFANO (SAM), who has taken leave from her job as a bank manager to be at the London 2012 Olympic Games.   In a rematch of the gold medal final of 2011 World Championships, the champion Denisse VAN LAMOEN (CHI) will face the runner-up Kristine ESEBUA (GEO), who is capable of pulling off an upset.   Berengere SCHUH (FRA) is a former two-time world indoor champion and is world No.8, so her rank of 37 was a surprise. Kaori KAWANAKA (JPN) will be confident and in good form after taking the team bronze on Sunday.   Naomi FOLKARD (GBR) shot a 4 at a crucial stage of Great Britain’s match with Ukraine. She will be hoping to keep her nerve when she faces Kristina TIMOFEEVA (RUS).   Source: ONS Edited by World Archery Communication
