The Virtual World Games 2009 allows users to experience Kaohsiung through technology

The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung will be the first major international multi-sports event hosted in Kaohsiung City, Chinese Taipei. In less than 300 days, the highly anticipated international athletic meet will take place in Kaohsiung. In addition, the pre-events of the World Games 2009 have been scheduled at the end of October. Apart from the actual games, the Kaohsiung Organising Committee (KOG) has also developed an exciting online game title based on the World Games to be promoted on the borderless Internet. The game features numerous sports (including archery9 that will be competed as official events in the upcoming World Games and it is the Kaohsiung Organising Committee’s ploy to advertise Kaohsiung to the rest of the world in both the virtual world and the real world at the same time.   In the featured online World Games developed by KOC’s IT department, official sports in the World Games have been transformed into contested events over the Internet. Not only that but also Kaohsiung’s local sceneries have been incorporated into the game. Before athletes from around the world gather in Kaohsiung to compete in the World Games, gamers will be able to compete against one another for the honour of gold medallists. This is an effective way of incorporating sports into entertainment and it would allow people around the world to get to know Kaohsiung better. The qualifying rounds of the online World Games have been scheduled between 5 September and 10 October 2008. The top three virtual athletes (three local gamers and three foreign gamers) in the online World Games with the highest accumulated points will participate in the online World Games finals on 17 October at the atrium of Kaohsiung City Hall. The champion stands to win a grand cash prize of NT$ 50,000; followed by NT$ 25,000 and NT$ 12,500 for the first and second runner-up respectively.
