Great archery names at the Universiade

Great archery names at the Universiade Belgrade (SRB) – 8 July 2009 Olympic champion Viktor RUBAN (UKR)    The Summer Universiade 2009 started on 1 July in Belgrade, Serbia. The archery competition is held from 7-11 July. No less than the Olympic champion Viktor RUBAN (UKR) and many other great archery names will compete for the medals.   Teams from 39 countries have gathered at the Military Academy, which is the venue for archery. Some of the archers have already an impressive career.   Recurve Men Together with the Olympic champion RUBAN, the fans will appreciate Juan Rene SERRANO (MEX) who was 4th in Beijing, as well as many other Olympians. For instance, present in Belgrade are SERRANO’s teammate Luis Eduardo VELEZ SANCHEZ, the recent indoor world medallist Rafal DOBROWOLSKI (POL) and his fellow countryman Jacek PROC, the winner of the 2007 World Cup Stage in Ulsan, KUO Cheng Wei (TPE) and his teammate WANG Cheng Pan, as well as the young hopeful Daniel MORILLO (ESP).   Some others have had brilliant results at the World Cup this year such as Thomas AUBERT (FRA), Amedeo TONELLI (ITA), respectively 2nd and 4th at the last stage in Antalya, as well as WENYUAN Chen (CHN). There is also the youth field world champion, Massimiliano MANDIA (ITA), the FITA Athletes' Committee member Matija ZLENDER (SLO) and the Koreans KIM Seong-Hoon and PARK Hee-Jae who are always dangerous.   Recurve Women The 2008 World Cup Final winner Justyna MOSPINEK (POL) will be among the big favourites together with the three Koreans KIm Yeseul, KIM Yumi and CHANG Hyejin. Victorya KOVAL (UKR) and Natalya ERDYNIEVA (RUS) are expected to be on top, too. GUO Dan (CHN) is none the less than the team silver medallist at the Beijing Olympic Games. Other Olympians participating in Belgrade include Jennifer NICHOLS (USA), the very young Roman AIDA (MEX), as well as YUAN Shu-Chi and WU Hui-Ju (TPE), Miroslava DAGBAEVA (RUS) and Pia Carmen LIONETTI (ITA).   Experts will notice as well the field world champion Jessica TOMASI (ITA) and the two times World Cup winner (back in 2006) QIAN Jialing (CHN).   Compound Men Some young but talented athletes will compete for the compound men's medals such as Simon ROUSSEAU (CAN), Denis SEGIN (RUS), KIM Dong-Gyu (KOR), Steven GATTO (USA), Phillips GUY (ITA), Nekouei NAMZEH (IRI) and Danzan KHALUDOROV (FRA).   Compound Women Some participants have already had the good fortune to win medals at World Cups or World Championships, such as Ivana BUDEN (CRO), Albina LOGINOVA (RUS), Linda OCHOA (MEX), Erika ANSCHUTZ and Brittany LORENTI (USA). One should also keep a watchful eye on SEOK Jihyun (KOR), Laura LONGO (ITA) and Maja MARCEN (SLO).
