Korea flies over the AIS Archery International Tournament


Park Sung Hyun (KOR) at Test Event 2007    The 2008 AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) Archery International was conducted between 18 and 26 January 2008, culminating in a Grand Prix style event with all match play being conducted in the fabulous Canberra Stadium – a first for Australian archery. The Olympic Champion Park Sung Hyun won the women’s competition, whereas the local athlete Kim Ha Neul finishes first on the men’s side.   The Australian Kim Ha Neul –winner of the 2007 Olympic Test Event- defeated Korean Lee Seung Yong 108-92 to win the gold medal in Canberra. His fellow countryman Matthew Gray lost the bronze 106-113 to another athlete from Korea, 2007 World Champion Im Dong Hyun. With five athletes in the top 7 Korea has proved its value once again. The first European in this competition is the French Romain Girouille who ranked 11th.      Kim Ha Neul (AUS) at Test Event 2007 On the female side, the eight competing Koreans got their hands on the top 8 places! Olympic Champion Park Sung Hyun finished 1st after defeating her teammate Lee Hyun Jung 113-111 in the gold final. Yun Ok Hee finished at 3rd rank. The best athlete behind the Korean armada was the young, promising Australian Jane Waller at 9th place. Waller was 2006 Cadet World Champion in Mexico. The best European lady is Sophie Dodemont from France who finished 12th.   The 16 Koreans who were participating in this Canberra AIS event will stay in Australian -in Melbourne- for three more weeks to take part in a first selection for the Beijing Olympic Games.
