Nine different countries won team bronze medals

  All the teams play matches with cumulative scoring. The mixed teams shoot 16 arrows (4 ends of 4 arrows) and the (regular) team 24 arrows (4 ends of 6 arrows).   The recurve teams played all their matches today, except the gold finals. The compound teams played their semifinals and bronze medal match. The mixed team only played their bronze medal match. Recurve shot at 70 metres, compound at 50 metres.   Recurve Junior Men Team The No. 2 seed Netherlands had to go through a shoot-off against the No. 7 Russia in the quarterfinals. The match ended tied at 212-212. Then each archer per team shot one extra arrow for the tie-break. GARMAEV/SYSOEV/TSYBEKDORZHIEV scored 25. DIELEMANS/VAN DEN OEVER/VAN DER VEN earned 27 and saved their head. However they could not go pass the No. 3 seed India in the semifinals. The Indians DAS/MONDAL/SWANSKI started the match very well with three ends of 55 points. Although they only scored 49 points in the last end, they had a sufficient margin to win 214-209.   The No. 1 seed Korea easily joined India in the final. They won 222-202 over Great Britain, then 226-213 against Poland and 220-207 against Japan.   In the bronze medal match, Netherlands started very well with 58 points. They outscored Japan in every ends to win 216-202.   Recurve Junior Women Team The Polish hosts gave their best against the No. 1 seed Korea in the quarterfinals but the Korean still prevailed 217-212. Then the Koreans beat India 220-195 in the semifinals.   At the bottom of the draw, the No. 15 Malaysia upset the No. 2 China. However, in the quarterfinals the Malaysians lost over the No. 10 Japanese 190-204. Japan could not continue their way either as they lost against the No. 3 Chinese Taipei in the semifinals 192-201.   India beat Japan for bronze, 201-189.   Recurve Junior Mixed Team The No. 2 seed India played the No. 5 seed Chinese Taipei. India led all the way as the score evolved from 38-36, 72-71, 108-107. However Chinese Taipei managed to tie the match in the last end at 143-143! In the shoot-off DAS/KUMARI shot a 10 and, unfortunately for them, a 5. The door was opened for CHEN/TAN who scored 9-8 to clinch the bronze medal for Chinese Taipei!   Recurve Cadet Men Team The No. 7 Chinese Taipei beat the No. 2 India in the quarterfinals 225-217. They went on to beat the No. 3 Slovenia 211-201. In the other semifinal Korea has a difficult match against China but prevailed 214-212.   The match for the bronze medal was a thriller. Slovenia led 57-55, 108-105 and 157-155. However the Chinese managed to tie the match in the last end at 210-210. The shoot-off was very close. China scored 27. Slovenia made 28 to take the bronze medal!   Recurve Cadet Women Team Korea broke the world record with 229 points in the quarterfinals, beating the USA who scored 210. The Koreans went on to beat India 206-196.   The No. 2 seed Russia had the world record since the Ogden Youth World Championships with 225 points. However, they could not manage such a high score this time as they were beaten by the No. 3 seed Ukraine 214-221.   The Russians earned consolation with the bronze medal. They were slightly better than India during the whole match to win 213-209.   Recurve Cadet Mixed Team Bulgaria made a surprise appearance in this bronze medal match against India. The Bulgarians VLADEV/DANILOVA took an early lead 35-34. However the Indians SWANSI/NARZARY came back strong in the second end with 39 points to lead 73-70. Bulgaria cut the deficit in the third end to 108-109 (38-36 on the end). However, both teams finished with 37 points and India won the bronze medal!   Compound Junior Men Team The No 1 and the No 2 seeds did make it to the final, although it turned out to be easier for the No. 2 Canada. Their American opponents had a bad start (48 points) and could never fully recover. Canada won 227-223.   Netherlands was tied with Mexico at 111-111 and then at 167-167. The Mexican scored 55 points in the last end, while the Dutch managed to get 56 points to earn their place in the final.   The USA and Mexico played a very good bronze medal match. The USA had a slight lead that they could keep until the end 58-57, 116-113, 174-171 and 229-227.   Compound Junior Women Team There was no respect for the logic in this category today. The No. 5 seed Mexico beat the No. 1 USA 221-218. The No. 3 Russia finished their match with the No. 2 Italy at 214-214. The Russians made up three points in the last end! Then they prevailed in the shoot-off 27-26.   For the bronze medal, the USA took an early lead 58-56, but Italy progressively came back at 111-112 and 168-168. The Italians outscored the Americans in the last end 55-54 to take the bronze medal, 223-222!   Compound Junior Mixed Team The No. 13 Spain had a very nice run to reach the bronze final against the No. 6 South Africa. The Spanish team took an early lead 38-35. However South Africa scored 39 in the second end to turn the situation around and led 74-73. Spain managed to tie it at 111-111 after 12 arrows. Finally, MARX/COETZEE finished with 37 points in the last end but VALVERDE/CORRAL were perfect with 40 points! Spain won the bronze 151-148!   Compound Cadet Men Team The No. 1 seed USA made it to the final this time. They beat Great Britain 223-218. In the other semifinal the No. 7 Turkey surprised the No. 3 seed Denmark who put the world record at 231 points on Tuesday. Turkey started very well with 59 points against 57 for Denmark. The Turkish increased the lead at 116-112, and although the Danish made up two points in the last two ends they came short. Victory for Turkey 228-226!   Denmark got consolation with the bronze medal, which they won 229-219 over Great Britain.   Compound Cadet Women Team The clash between the No. 3 USA and the No. 2 Russia hold all its promises. The USA actually took a strong lead at 58-53, 116-109. However Russia came back at 155-160 and finally at 223-223! The Americans however were close to perfection in the tie-break. Their three archers shot for 29 points, whereas the Russians managed only 27.   The No. 1 seed Mexico also played a roller-coaster game against the No. 4 Croatia: 54-55, 109-107, 161-161, 217-215! Victory for Mexico!   The Russians scored another time 223 points in the bronze medal to defeat Croatia who earned 215.   Compound Cadet Mixed Team South Africa played their second mixed team bronze final, this time as the No. 1 seed. However, they did not have more luck in this final against the No. 3 seed Denmark. HANSEN/SONNICHSEN kept a slight edge on LOOTS/WENTZEL during most part of the match 37-38, 76-74, 114-112, 149-147.   All the team gold medal matches are played tomorrow in the Legnica Centre Park stadium!   Didier MIEVILLE World Archery Communication
