Quotes of the Indoor Worlds Qualifications Las Vegas

Quotes of the Indoor Worlds Qualifications Las Vegas – 6 February 2012   The qualifications in the recurve and compound categories took place today at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Here are the reactions of the athletes live from the shooting range.   Recurve Men   Brady ELLISON (USA) – 1st place “I’m shooting terrible. I really longed to shoot 599 or 600 today.”   Crispin DUENAS (CAN) – 2nd place “I am really happy with how I shot, this is exactly how I practice so I feel very prepared for this competition. Everything feels right. I was hoping to finish at least in the top 10, but a 2nd place finish was also realistic for me because of my previous indoor season.”   Recurve Women   Ksenia PEROVA (RUS) – 1st place “I feel excellent. Everything went very well. I was more focused on my technique than on the ranking, I wasn’t planning to finish 1st, even though of course we always hope to be the leader. I hope to go on shooting like this!”   Christine BJERENDAL (SWE) – 2nd place “I feel great. It’s my first Indoor World Championships and I definitely didn’t expect to finish so high in the ranking, but rather around the 10-15th place. Now I can say I would be happy with a top 3 finish. My main goal this year is to qualify for the Olympics.”   Natalia VALEEVA (ITA) – 4th place “My performance was good but not as good as I wanted. It is enough for today, because it doesn’t matter if you finish qualifications in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. What matters are the elimination rounds and the finals. I will try to be more focused tomorrow.”   Compound Men   Sebastien PEINEAU (FRA) – 2nd place “I am happy with my shooting. I have good sensations, I am shooting very smoothly, 100%. I am really very happy with the way I am shooting, now tha main challenge is to keep shooting at this level. It is my first indoor world championships since the 2004 Junior World Indoor Championships.”   Pierre-Julien DELOCHE (FRA) – 3rd place “Today it took me time until I felt comfortable with my shooting, but my final result is not bad at all. I suffer from jet-lag and I don’t really like the food here. As for the atmosphere, it is unreal to shoot in the heart of the compound archery culture. It is hard to believe that we are actually shooting a world championships, considering that we are next to a casino, we can hear the slot machines and the Las Vegas strip is just a walk away. Obviously, the world championships are more important than my birthday, but still… it’s totally amazing to celebrate my 30th birthday in Las Vegas!”   Sergio PAGNI (ITA) – 3rd place “I am feeling good. The smaller 10-ring is a little bit different and more difficult to aim at, but I have shot at this target before, at the Tournament of Nimes which I won, so I can say that I like this new target. ”   Jimmy BUTTS (USA) – 9th place “I enjoy shooting here. My performance was not so good today, not as good as I would have liked it to be. But I was just hoping to have a good time. Everybody wants to win, but there will be only one winner.”   Compound Women   Christie COLIN (USA) – 1st place “I’m really excited to be here and I’m happy about how I’m shooting. I’m excited that I’m back here because I wasn’t there for the Indoor World Championships in 2009, I was pregnant with my second son, but I shot the 2007 one [in Izmir, where she placed 9th]. I hope to make it to the end in this competition.”   Petra ERICSSON (SWE) – 3rd place “I feel good. I had struggles for a few ends but I got it together in the end so I’m happy. It’s a lot of fun to be shooting again, I’m enjoying myself, it’s good to be back on the big tournaments. I took a long break but it has been good since I now have two beautiful kids. I will now really fight hard to win a medal here.”   Linda OCHOA (MEX) – 6th place “I’m very happy to be here. In Mexico I never shoot indoors, but I like it and here I am! I am shooting better than before. My goal is to make the top 10. It’s my first Indoor World Championships, but I have already competed at the Festival four times.”   World Archery Communication
