Four world records for Korea and one for the USA!

KIM Joo Wan (photo) broke the world record he set at the last World Archery Youth Championships in Kundu-Antalya (TUR) last year. In the FITA Round he set the new mark at 1380, also breaking the record for the 50-metre distance on the way. On the women’s side, JEON Hunyoung also broke the previous world record in her FITA Round, also setting it at 1380. The Korean recurve women’s team also broke the world record and a fine day was rounded off with the host nation’s compound women’s team claiming a new world record as well. In the compound cadet men's category, Nicklas FRIESE (DEN) broke the American supremacy taking 1st place. However, the American women continued their domination.   Recurve Cadet Men KIM Joo Wan (KOR) had a comfortable lead after the 70 and 60-metre distances. He had 681 points, 14 more than his teammate PARK Yeonsu. The Russian Aldar TSYDENOV was 3rd with 657.

In the afternoon, KIM did not ease off, breaking the 50m world record with 343 points! He ended with 356 at 30m to set the world record at 1380, three points better than his mark in Kundu-Antalya! He built a truly impressive lead over his pursuers. PARK finished the day on 1347 points and the third Korean, MIN Taehong, completed the sweep on 1331. Vitaliy KOMONYUK (UKR) surged back at the end to reach 4th place on 1324, tied with Gael PREVOST (FRA). TSYDENOV finished 6th on 1321 points.

Korea of course led the teams ahead of Ukraine and Russia.
Recurve Cadet Women Although the women shoot slightly shorter distances at this age (60m, 50m, 40m and 30m), this does not take anything away from the stellar performance of JEON Hunyoung(photo)! She also scored 1380 points to break the world record! This category also featured a sweep for the Koreans.

JEON Hunyoung led after the 60 and 50-metre distances with 682 points. Her teammates OH Damee and CHOI Youri were not far behind with 680 and 679 points, respectively. Then JEON was again the best at 40m (344 points) and at 30m (354 points). Both scores tied the world record at the distance. OH finished 2nd with 1373 points, and CHOI 3rd with 1368. Deepika KUMARI (IND) was 4th with 1345 ahead of the first representative from the USA, Miranda LEEK, who had 1337. Lidia SICHENIKOVA (UKR) and Oyuna BOLOTOVA (RUS) followed with 1329 points.

It was the same as the boys in the team ranking: Korea, Ukraine, and Russia. Korea scored 4121 for the world record!
Compound Cadet Men Two Americans led at the halfway mark. Riley WHITING had 690 points, leading Alexander SAHI on 686. Nicklas FREISE (DEN) was not far behind with 685 and Vladislav VORONKOV (RUS) was 4th with 681.

In the early afternoon, the Dane FREISE shot an impressive 347 points at 50m to take the lead! He then scored 355 at 30m and that was enough to preserve his lead in the overall ranking. He was tied at 1387 with WHITING, but FREISE had more 10s. SAHI was 3rd on 1384. Jaime van BARBIERI (AUS) had 1374, ahead of Simon MIKKELSEN (DEN), Adolfo MEDINA (MEX) and Keenan BROWN (CAN).

In the team ranking, the USA led Denmark and Russia.
Compound Cadet Women The scores were tight on top after the two first distances. Kailey JOHNSTON had 692, two more points than her teammate Paige PEARCE(photo). Gabriela TREVINO (MEX) trailed by one more point with 689, just ahead of Toja CERNE (SLO) with 688 and Stephanie SALINAS (MEX) with 687.

At the end JOHNSTON proved to be most consistent, clinching 1st place with 1397 points, ahead of PEARCE with 1394. The gap extended with the pursuers. CERNE finished with 1386, SALINAS with 1381 and TREVINO with 1373, tied with Clara NIETO TALADRIZ (ESP).

On the teams' side, USA prevailed over Mexico and Russia, with a score of 4157 points—the fifth world record of the day!

However, tomorrow will be another day for all these young athletes with the elimination matches.
