The Ski Archery World Cup starts in Germany

The skiing resort of Krün Mittenwald in Germany hosts the opening of the Ski Archery World Cup this week-end on January, 7-8.

The men and the women will compete on two races : the sprint and pursuit !

On Saturday, as of 10 am, the participants put on the cross-country skis for the sprint event, with an individual start every 30 seconds. During the 7.5 km track for the men, or 6 km for the women, they will stop twice at the shooting range : one time standing and the other one in the kneeing position. Every missed target will cause a penalty lap of 150 m.

On Sunday, at 10 am, the competitors go on with the pursuit event, starting in the order of the sprint results and taking into account the time differences. The spectators will assist at true and modern pursuit race with two shooting stops that may quite separate the winner from the pack. The men race on 10 km and the women on 8 km. In total, the participation reaches 25 archers from 6 countries.

The Ski Archery World Cup has already a big tradition and comes back under the management of FITA after a few years spent within the Biathlon Federation. This season, the Krün Mittenwald stage is followed by the one in Forni Avoltri (ITA), on January 26-30, before the Final in Moscow, on March 2-6. The Italian and Russian stages will also propose the mass start on top of the sprint and pursuit. FITA will of course conduct a world ranking with medals to attract all the fans of archery and cross-country skiing.

It is truly a new and promising rebirth for Ski Archery in Krün Mittenwald this week-end !
