The Field World Championships in Göteborg

Goteborg, 25 August 2006

Sweden will host the best field archers from August 27th to September 2nd.

The Swedish Archery Association, together with the local organizer Vision West, welcomes all field archers, leaders, officials and spectators to the 2006 World championships in Field Archery. The event takes place in beautiful surroundings of Goteborg and will host both juniors and seniors championships.

There will be some high class archers that are also competing successfully in the Outdoor Archery World Cup (which holds the Olympic discipline of archery). For instance, the USA is sending Dave Cousins Vic Wunderle, Aya LaBrie, Jahna Davis and recent two World Records holder Jamie Van Natta. Moreover, the US team features Rick Dudley, silver medallist in 2004 and the Andre Agassi of archery : Rick McKinney. The Compound Men category promises to be extremely competitive with the home favourite Morgan Lundin (SWE), Ruben Ochoa (MEX), Dejan Sitar (SLO), Clint Freeman (AUS) and Chris White (GBR) who just beat the 70m. World Record and is the current World Champion. The other categories will also feature many top archers such as Gladys Willems (BEL), Nicola Simpson (GBR), Alan Wills (GBR), Michele Frangilli (ITA) or Petra Ericsson (SWE).

Bo Palm, the Organising Committee President, said: “Since we sent our application to arrange this championship, we have worked hard to make this year world championship to a competition with ‘proximity’. The accommodation for archers and officials are at Hotel Gothia Towers in the heart of Goteborg with nearness to most of the facilities in Goteborg. Just across the street from the hotel is one of Europe’s most famous amusement parks. In the hotel surroundings, you can find museums, wonderful parks and fantastic restaurants. Goteborg is famous for its sea food.”

The genuine archery spectators will be given the chance to follow the competitions at a close distance since most targets are public friendly. This goes also for all tracks as well as for the team finals that are held at the Gunnebo castle and gardens just outside Göteborg. The public are also able to follow the competitions closely, especially the finals that are held in a beautiful park “Trädgårdsföreningen” in the town centre. This park is frequently visited by the citizens of Göteborg when the weather is nice. All targets are spectator viewing friendly and the shooting can be followed by everyone.

Bo Palm continued: “We will also do a hard work to serve the spectators and officials in the best possible way by organizing the score boards so that everyone can follow what happens on the tracks. We will display the results after each 4th or 6th target. The results will also be continuously presented on two websites: www.fieldarcherysweden.com and the FITA website. Last but not least, there will be a great closing party instead of the traditional banquet for all leaders, officials, archers and others who wants to participate.

Finally we wish you all welcome to the Field World Championships here in Göteborg, a championship that we hope, and believe will be a positive experience for both participants and spectators.”
