16 April 2008 - World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Day 1

World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Day 1 Porec – 16 April 2008
Today the Qualification Rounds were run in Porec. Find below some quotes from the archers! We asked them the following questions: How was your shooting today? (note: it was raining a lot most the morning, before the sun appeared) Did you come to the first World Cup in Porec in 2006 and do you have any special memories?    Recurve Men Jacek Proc (POL) The day was not good for me! But still I’m happy because I shot a very good first end in which I was trying to do something technical. I was in the 9 ring close to the 10, but it was 9s. Then, it went worse… I had to fight in a shoot-off for 64th place. I don’t even remember the last time it happened to me… But after a long break waiting for the results and not shooting on the same target, I’m very happy that I shot an X in the shoot-off and qualified for the matches tomorrow. Yes, I already competed here two years ago, but I don’t remember many things except that there was already lots of mud!
Vedat Erbay (TUR) Today was not good. It’s the first time it happens to me. I don’t know what happened. I wasn’t in Porec last time. Everything is ok here, the venue is good. The only bad thing is the weather… it’s like in Santo Domingo… but nothing can be done about, of course. I just hope it will go for better!   Recurve Women Malgorzata Cwienczek (POL) I feel better than during the Stage 1 in Santo Domingo. Of course I shot better when it was sunny rather than raining, but overall I am happy. I actually suffer more from the cold than from the rain. I think it is quite beautiful here. However, I did not come to Porec in 2006 because I just had a baby. My first World Cup was in Antalya a while later. My little girl is now more than two and half years old. When I am competing I call her a lot. We can also see each other on Skype. It’s funny, because she is touching the screen thinking she will touch me.
Alison Williamson (GBR) I have been a little sick since I came back from the World Cup Stage 1 and that’s why the coach did not put me here in the team event. Maybe the experience helps a bit with the rain, but after a while you just have to endure it. You have to put your mind through it. I have come to Porec a lot of times and it’s really nice… Maybe we should just move it to August to avoid the rain (smiling).
Anja Hitzler (GER) I could not find my rhythm today. My technique was wrong, I can’t complain about the rain. However, I don’t like to shoot with so many clothes when it is raining or cold. I remember the first World Cup in 2006 because it also rained really hard during practice. Then we were all soaked to take the official FITA photos with the sponsors for the biography. I still like the place very much. Since the hotel is so close, it’s easy to come walking to watch our team-mate who shoot in other categories.
Elin Kattstrom (SWE) Somehow, I didn’t find the yellow today. Only the red and the blue. At the beginning the string of my bow caught with my clothes, so I shot some arrows in the low 5 and 4. Then it started raining heavily. In any case, it’s not the fault of the rain. My results are just not going in the right direction. I didn’t come to Porec in 2006, but I came for a Grand Prix and also for the Junior European Championships in 2001. I finished 5th at that time so I have a good memory. I guess I will not remember much from this time around.
Compound Men Dominique Genet (FRA) – part of the team who set a new World Record The rain didn’t affect me much. As long as there was not much wind, it was OK. I actually was more affected with the change of lighting when the sun came through. Although I didn’t rank high in Santo Domingo, it was good to continue the competition here. I took one end at a time and I am really happy that we have achieved this team World Record! I was 3rd in 2006 and already at first place during the qualifications, so I guess Porec is good for me. I am happy to be back. I can only hope the rest of the week will be of the same kind.
Pierre Jullien Deloche (FRA) – part of the team who set a new World Record This is my first FITA outdoor competition overall so I was just here to get a feel for it. I never thought I would pass the 700 points, rank 4th in individual and achieve a team World Record!
Patrizio Hofer (SUI) I shot really bad this morning and that was not because of the rain. My release was terrible. I am actually lucky some “bad” arrows actually went into the yellow. I did shoot a bit better at the end and I climbed back into the ranking. It’s a return to Porec but unfortunately it’s also a return of the rain. Anyway, I remember two years ago the weather got better along the week so hopefully it will be the same this time. I like the hotel because it’s very close to the field. Thanks to the people in the organization who are working very well!    Compound Women Fatima Agudo (ESP) Today I was feeling ok. I made some mistakes, but in general it was very good. (Note: she finished 5th) I did not visit the city, so I don’t know it. I wasn’t participating two years ago. I like the venue here because it is very close to the hotel. This is very important!
Tanja Zorman (CRO) I’m pretty satisfied! I did a lot of 10s but I was also too much in the red. I don’t know what happened. Maybe I lost concentration. Therefore, my score is not that good! Yes, I was here in 2006. I finished 3rd in the European Grand Prix and I think 7th in the World Cup. I have good memories. It’s very nice to shoot at home, because there is a lot of staff and people cheering for you!
Tania Forni (SUI) I shot three ends where I did not understand what happened… The rest was ok! We had a beautiful day, both yesterday for practice and today for qualifications. My category was lucky to have sun both times! It’s the first time I shoot in Porec. I wasn’t here two years ago. It’s a very nice place with the sea and the rest. The atmosphere is very good in such events! I can see people, friends that I see only once or twice a year. It’s very nice!
