World Cup Stage 4 – Quotes of the Day 5

We talked to the archers after the final matches today.    Recurve Men
Viktor Ruban (UKR)  I had a lot of emotions but I kept it inside. It’s hard to describe. It’s a great feeling to win!
It’s not sure at all that the no. 1 after qualifications will actually win the tournament. It will be the same in Beijing. There will be a lot of tough competitors there but I will do my best.
Recurve Women
Park Sung-Hyun (KOR) This the first time I shoot at night. It’s a special experience. Anyway, the name of the game stays the same. You have to focus and shoot 10s. I didn’t shoot as many 10s as I wanted tonight, but that was enough to win the match. This World Cup stage was a great rehearsal for the upcoming Olympic Games. I don’t think I have more pressure because I am the current Olympic Champion. I will keep preparing myself and I hope I will shoot well in Beijing and enjoy the competition.
Compound Men
Patrick Coghlan (AUS) I really enjoyed this final at night! It’s awesome! However, I had to keep my focus all the way through the match and the shoot-off. People tell me the crowd got crazy but I could stay focused and win the match. Now I will put a training plan together with my coach to prepare for the World Cup Final in Lausanne. I went to Switzerland one time but I was really young. I remember it was beautiful and I am looking forward to go back.
Patrizio Hofer (SUI) It’s a bit funny to shoot a night. It’s more difficult to see the target in the scope. Anyway, I shoot well. My score is good, but Martin was simply one point better than me tonight. I am now looking forward to the World Cup Final in Lausanne, in Switzerland!
Compound Women
Luzmary Guedez (VEN) I was very nervous but very concentrated. I enjoyed it! This the first time that I shoot by night but it didn’t affect me. After the third end I managed to focus again. It was great to hear the Venezuelan fans cheer after each 10!
Jamie Van Natta (USA) Overall it’s a great experience. It does make it interesting. Of course you had to adapt from the practice field and the night light influences a bit the aiming right/left. Since my first arrows were a bit too much on the left, I aimed more on the right. And that was it…
  Recurve Men Team
Daniel Morillo (ESP) It was a lot of fun to be on a Final field and I learned a lot! It’s the best training for the Olympics. Until the Games, I will continue to work every day at home. It worked well until now so I will keep training… On 30 July I will go to a 1-week training camp in Korea and from there to Beijing.
Recurve Women Team
Alison Williamson (GBR) We lift each other in the team! It will be my 5th Olympic Games, in Beijing, so I try to share my experience. However, my two younger team-mates are quite talented and quite far in the learning curve. It’s not me teaching them. We are teaching and supporting each other. We have had great team chemistry for the last two years and I hope we pull it again in Beijing.
We will have a training camp at our national centre in Lilleshall in July. Then we will go to Macau for a camp with the entire British team for the Olympics. We will get acclimated to China there and we will arrive in Beijing on 5 August.
Pia Carmen Lionetti (ITA) I have said it was a big test to face the Koreans and although we lost by two points it went OK. Nevertheless, we need to train individually and also with the team together to avoid the few mistakes that cost us the victory. One can’t afford any mistake against the Koreans. We will have a training camp in Sardaigna. This will allow us to train with the wind. On 27 July we will go to Beijing. Let’s hope we also have a little bit of luck there.
Compound Men Team
Patrick Coghlan (AUS) We had perfect conditions this afternoon. Hat off to the French who played a superb match. Robert (Timms) and I are usually in the team, and this time we had Zoran (Singerov) with us. He has probably won more matches in Australia than any one in the last five years. So it’s good for him to get the international experience, too.
I could take some hints for the wind before my individual final but usually the wind drop at night. We will see if that’s the case here. I hope the lights will be fair for both left and right shooters. I have shot by night in Australia and I am absolutely confident the show will be great tonight!
Compound Women Team
Maria Zempou (GRE) It was my first final and actually… I was more nervous that I thought I would be, when I talked to you yesterday. My back hand was shaking. You know, I only started archery two years ago. The European Indoor in Torino last winter was my first competition. Today, my first final! It’s just a great experience and we hope to get back there!
Albina Loginova (RUS) My shooting has been up-and-down and I have changed my bow recently. The first time I shot it was a great feeling, but now I really have to adapt to it. So it’s nice to have this team bronze today. Next week I will leave for the University Archery World Championships in Chinese Taipei. I am doing a master in coaching at the Physical Education, Sports and Tourism Institute. Then we will have the Russian Championships mid July. Later on, maybe we will send a team to the Field World Championships. Afterthat I believe we’ll deserve a vacation!
