News from Oceania

News from Oceania Lausanne – 3 October 2008   The Oceania Archery Confederation (OAC) has informed FITA of the following matters:   Oceania Continental Championships This event will take place in Tahiti from 27-29 October 2008. The travel costs are considerable so it appears the tournament will not be as well attended as in the past. However Congress in 2006 welcomed the bid from Tahiti and wanted to reward the archers from that country who have been totally loyal and supportive members of Oceania, and whom we see regularly at the New Zealand Nationals.   Archers who attend the Championships will also receive coaching from Renaud BAUDRILLARD a very experienced professional coach from Paris now living in New Caledonia.   Oceania Congress The OAC Congress will take place in Tahiti following the tournament. There will be a workshop on the afternoon of 29 October at which will be discussing the programme of the new Development Agent, Mary MAHUK, the rounds and who should be able to participate in Continental Championships and several other items.   The actual Congress will take place on 30 October 2008. The agenda is posted on the Oceania website.   Congratulations In the last few weeks two people in Oceania have received significant honours for their service to archery.   The Hon Ramsay DALGETY QC, President of the Tonga Archery Association, has been created a Noble by the new King George Tupou V. Ramsay’s Tongan title is Lord Dalgety of Sikotilani Tonga. He has also been appointed as chairman of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. The secretary of the Tonga Archery Association has been appointed Vice Keeper of the Judicial Seal for this committee.   John WOMERSLEY AOM, Vice President of the Oceania Archery Confederation and holder or former holder of many Archery Australia positions, was recently awarded the FITA Bronze Plaquette for his services to archery, particularly in Australia.   Oceania congratulates these worthy recipients and looks forward to continuing its association with them to benefit archery in the region.   Carole A Hicks President Oceania Archery Confederation
