World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Day 4

Recurve Men   Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND) – Reaching gold medal match on Saturday I remember I won the first World Cup ever here in Porec in 2006. So I think that Croatia is lucky for me and I definitely came here hoping for another victory. I had a good morning but my second round match against XUE Hai Feng (CHN) was tough. He almost shot perfect in the first end and I trailed 58-59. But I thought I could still win this match. We both struggled a bit into the wind during the second end but I managed to score 54 points. He only did 52 and I clinched the match. It gave me even more confidence.   In 2007, I had an injury in my left shoulder and I did not shoot well. In 2008, it was already better but not top notch. I hope 2009 will be a great year.   Jean-Charles VALLADONT (FRA) – Reaching bronze medal match on Saturday I have had a tendinitis in my elbow for many weeks. So we have decreased the physical exercises and I am feeling a bit weak when the competition is long. This a bit the reason why the qualifications were not so good and I suffered in my quarter and semifinals today. When I feel tired, I lose my alignment and I shoot high (or left) on the target. However, I felt fresh early in the competition and shot really well. This is why I reached the bronze medal match and I am very happy.   Chris MARSCH (SUI) - Competition Manager for London 2012 and Swiss team member left on photo Will you finish this season or will Antalya be your last competition as an active archer? Antalya will be my last international competition. I will still do some shooting in the UK if I get any free time. What do you think about the organisation here? They are doing a fantastic job and it is very well organised. All the experience I have with all the different organisations are giving me a good idea of where and how to improve to make sure that the archery competition in London will be a big success. I hope to see you all there.   Recurve Women   Pia Carmen LIONETTI (ITA) – Reaching gold medal match on Saturday In 2006, it was my first major event here in Porec. I lost in the semifinal but I won the bronze medal. Since then, I have earned some good results with the team and I have gained a lot of experience with an archer like Natalia VALEEVA. However, I had never reached a gold medal game in individual until today! Now I am happy that I have done it and I am hungry for gold!   Natalia VALEEVA (ITA) – Defeated in 1/8 eliminations I had a bad match versus Berengere (SCHUH) from France. I made two technical mistakes on two shoot and I did not control the wind on three other shots. I actually wanted to experiment a second grip before we move on in the season. So the grip I had here was more comfortable and it felt great in practice at home, but it did not go well with the stress of the competition. I could not control my shots. Too bad, now I have to take the grip I had when I won in Santo Domingo, but it is a bit more painful for my hand.   Deonne BRIDGER (AUS) photo right How does it feel to be back in the game? I’m very excited to be shooting again. Being a coach was good but I can see the world in a different way now than as a coach. We are all very excited to have Simon (FAIRWEATHER) as a coach. He’s only been there for a couple of weeks but he is doing fantastic, and most of all it’s nice to catch up with my archery friends.   Compound Men   Martin DAMSBO (DEN) – Losing to No. 64 seed in the first elimination round He just shot more 10s than I did, I managed 56 pts with a good group, but wind was rising a little. I then shot 58 in the next end but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.   Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN) – Winning 1/16 elimination match against Brady ELLISON (USA) I was so lucky. This was the toughest match I shot. The World Cup Finals and the world championships were a lot easier. This could have been one of my most embarrassing moments. FITA shouldn’t allow the top recurve archers to shoot compound (laughs). It’s too stressful on the compound shooters.   Sergio PAGNI (ITA) – Semifinal winner Croatia is a good place for me! I won the gold medal in the individual and team events in 2008 here, and again this year I am in the final for gold. The race for the World Cup Final started well for me!   Compound Women   Anastasia ANASTASIO (ITA) – Losing to Ivana BUDEN (CRO) in the semifinal I am happy to be in the final, too bad I missed my last end.   Eugenia SALVI (ITA) – Losing to Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) in the 1/8 elimination match There is no real story. I shot a good score with 114 points. Albina’s last perfect end could not be beaten, she really shot great and my score was not high enough. That’s it!   Didier MIEVILLE/Chantal STEINER/Dean ALBERGA FITA Communication
