  FITA statistician Sergio FONT has compiled many data from our results database managed by our partner TFORS. At the eve of the World Archery Championships Ulsan 2009, these fact and figures will help us identify the favourites. We start today with data from the 16 World Cup stages played so far since 2006. We will then extend our analysis to all major FITA events in our next article.   World Cup Facts and Figures   Ø 16 World Cup stages have been held since the circuit started in Porec 2006. Ø 4,294 is the cumulative total of competitors in World Cup events: 1,038 (2006), 1,031 (2007), 1,297 (2008), 928 (2009). Ø Porec 2008 had the highest total number of competitors: 375. Ø The highest number of archers in one individual category participated in the recurve men’s category in Boe 2008 is 155. Ø 136 gold medals have been distributed: 64 individual events, 64 team events, and 8 mixed teams. Ø The 5 Continental Associations have won medals. Ø 22 Member Associations (countries) have won gold medals. Ø 37 Member Associations have won medals. Ø Korea has won the highest number of gold medals with 26, followed by Italy (20), and the United States and the Russian Federation (17 each). Ø Korea has won the highest total number of medals with 51, followed by the United States (42), and Italy and the Russian Federation (39 each). Ø The following countries have won more than 10 medals: Korea (51), United States (42), Italy (39), Russian Federation (39), Great Britain (32), France (29), China (23), India (15), Mexico (15), Netherlands (13), and Australia (10). Ø 10 out of Mexico's 15 medals in the World Cup have been achieved in the team round. Ø The Italians have shown an outstanding performance in the new mixed team competition introduced in 2009. They have won 4 of the 8 gold medals disputed.   Recurve Men   Ø Only three archers have won two legs of the World Cup in the recurve men’s individual event: Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND), Ilario DI BUO (ITA) and Romain GIROUILLE (FRA). Ø Baljinima TSYREMPILOV (RUS) and PARK Kyung-Mo (KOR) have won 4 recurve men's individual medals: 1 gold, 1 silver and two bronze medals each. Ø Korea (5), Italy (3) and India (3) have been the top gold medallists in the recurve men’s team events. Ø Italy has won 8 medals in the men’s recurve team: 3-2-3. Ø Based on the total number of points obtained in World Cup stages, the top three archers in Recurve Men are:   ·         Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND): 126 points ·         Ilario DI BUO (ITA): 115 points ·         Baljinima TSYREMPILOV (RUS): 110 points   Recurve Women   Ø YUN Ok Hee has won 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals in the recurve women’s individual event. She has won the highest number of World Cup events in any women’s individual category. Ø Natalia VALEEVA (ITA), PARK Sung Hyun (KOR) and QIAN Jialing (CHN) have won 2 individual gold medals each. Ø Korea has won the recurve women’s team event 8 times (50% of the total). They have never lost a gold medal match, but have been defeated in semifinal matches twice. Ø China and Great Britain have won the recurve women’s team event 3 times each. Ø The Italian recurve women’s team has shot 6 gold medals matches, but they have lost 5 of them.  Ø Based on the total number of points obtained in World Cup stages, the top three archers in Recurve Women are:   ·         YUN Ok-Hee (KOR): 175 points ·         Natalia VALEEVA (ITA): 120 points ·         PARK Sung-Hyun (KOR): 106 points   Compound Men   Ø Sergio PAGNI (ITA) has won 4 World Cup stages in the compound men’s compound: 2 in 2008 and 2 in 2009. Ø Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA) has shot for the gold 6 times and has been victorious twice. Two of his losses have been versus Sergio PAGNI (ITA) in 2009. Ø Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA) has won 7 medals: 2 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze. Ø USA compound archers Dave COUSINS and Braden GELLENTHIEN have won 2 individual gold medals each. Ø The United States have won the compound men’s compound event 6 times. Ø Africa’s only medal (bronze) was achieved by South Africa’s compound men’s team in Shanghai 2009. Ø Across all categories, Patrizio HOFER (SUI) is the only archer who has taken part in the 16 legs of the World Cup held so far. He is the only one to have ranked in the top 6 every year. Ø Based on the total number of points obtained in World Cup stages, the top three archers in Compound Men are:   ·         Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA): 176 points ·         Patrizio HOFER (SUI): 173 points ·         Peter ELZINGA (NED): 141 points   Compound Women   Ø Sofia GONCHAROVA and Anna KAZANTSEVA (RUS) have won 3 gold medals each in the compound women’s events, while Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) and Luzmary GUEDEZ (VEN) have won the 1st place twice. Ø Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) has shot 7 times in a gold medal match. She has won only twice and has lost to 5 different opponents: Anna KAZANTSEVA (RUS), Sofia GONCHAROVA (RUS), Petra ERICSSON (SWE), Eugenia SALVI (ITA) and Brittany LORENTI (USA). Ø Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) has won the highest number of medals: 8 (2 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze). Ø The Russian compound women’s team has won 7 gold medals and a total of 10 medals. Ø Greece and the Philippines have won their only medals in the World Cup in the compound women’s team event. Ø Across all categories, Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) is the archer with the highest number of World Cup events where she obtained World Cup ranking points: 14 (out of 16!) Ø Based on the total number of points obtained in World Cup stages, the top three archers in Compound Women are:   ·         Jamie VAN NATTA (USA): 228 points ·         Sofia GONCHAROVA (RUS): 187 points ·         Anna KAZANTSEVA (RUS): 169 points   Sergio FONT FITA Communication
