The 52nd World Archery Congress is due to be held in Mexico City  on 13/14 October 2017 on the eve of the World Archery Championships running from 15 to 22 October.

The World Archery Star awards recognise achievements on the standard World Archery competition rounds. Only one performance award can be claimed for each round – when the athlete achieves the relevant score for the first time in an event.

Archery first appeared in the Olympic Games in 1900 and was contested again in 1904, 1908, and 1920. Women competed in the 1904 Olympics, making archery one of the first sports to include events for both genders.

The sport then had a 52-year hiatus from the Olympics. It was re-introduced to the programme in 1972, with individual events for men and women.
