China beats W1 team matchplay world record during world champs finals

The matchplay score was a new world record, and enough for Han Guifei, Liu Huanan and Wang Zhusheng to beat the Czech Republic, featuring Beijing 2008 Paralympic Champion David Drahoninsky, to the W1 men’s team bronze medal.

Para archery W1 category team matches are shot to the same rules as compound matches: 24-arrows, cumulative scoring with a highest possible total of 240 points. Athletes have impairments affecting both the top and bottom of their bodies and may use either a recurve or a compound bow, limited to 45lb.

The 201-point world record was one of a number of highlights of Saturday morning’s finals in Donaueschingen for China.

The nation also won a world championship crown in the compound open mixed team competition and collected the silver medal in the W1 mixed team event.

Both gold finals were against Great Britain.

During the recurve matches in the afternoon, China collected recurve men’s open team bronze with a comfortable, 6-0 win over the USA, the recurve women’s open and recurve open mixed team world titles, both in full-length, four-set battles with Russia.
