The team swept the titles at the multisport youth event.

Chinese Taipei’s Tang Chih-Chun and Su Szu-Ping won the recurve cadet men’s and women’s gold medals at the 2018 Gymnasiade in Marrakesh, Morocco, as the Taipei squad won all five available gold medals and seven in total in the archery competitions.

“Our team was mostly composed of archers who competed at the World Archery Youth Championships last year. At this event we could see the improvement in skill, some shooting 28-29-30 and showing they’re getting more confident in matches,” said coach Ni Ta-Chih, who will also head up Chinese Taipei’s squad at this summer’s Asian Games.

“It’s important to get young archers more international competition experience because they are flexible at that age and properly absorb the experience. It’s important for the development of their performance.”

Ukraine took both individual bronze medals courtesy of Artem Ovchynnikov and Olha Shubkina; finished second in the recurve cadet men’s team and mixed team events; and third in the recurve cadet women’s tournament.

The remaining podium places all went to France.

The Gymnasiade is an international multisport event held every two years for young people of school age. The archery events age groups match up with those used at the Youth Olympic Games.

Archery has been on the programme at the last two editions, in Trabzon, Turkey in 2016 and Marrakesh, Morocco in 2018, and World Archery recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the International School Sport Federation to support the growth of the sport at the event.

The archery competitions at the 2018 Gymnasiade took place on 2-5 May in Marrakesh, Morocco.
