Duenas, Prieels take clear leads in Indoor World Series elite rankings

Sarah Prieels world-record and gold-medal-winning performance at the TRUBAll/Axcel Roma Archery Trophy has pushed her into the top spot in the compound women’s elite ranking for the 2020 Indoor Archery World Series.

The 29-year-old, shooting for the Performance Archery team on this indoor circuit, finished third in Macau – worth 125 ranking points – and ninth at the GT Open.

She posted a world-record 597-point qualification score before winning Rome.

Paige Pearce, who has also attended and scored at all three events held so far, sits second in the elite ranking on 295 – 100 behind leader Prieels.

Crispin Duenas broke a deadlock at the top of the recurve men’s elite ranking by collecting 50 points for sixth place in Rome. He took gold at the second event in Luxembourg.

Ko Dusol, who won Macau, sits joint second with Rome winner Marco Galiazzo.

There is now a three-way tie between world number one Kang Chae Young, Kim Young Kyeong and Park Seon Jin at the top of the recurve women’s elite ranking. The three Korean professional archers have each attended one different event of the tour so far – at which they’ve all finished first.

Gabriela Bayardo, ranked fourth, has scored points at each tournament. She has accrued 185 in total and sits 65 behind the leaders.

GT Open champion Mike Schloesser remains number one in the compound men’s elite ranking having taken a third consecutive podium on the 2020 Indoor Archery World Series.

He finished second in Macau and third in Rome.

The winner of this most recent stage, Dave Cousins, jumped up 10 places in the ranking to second. Kris Schaff, who beat Schloesser to gold in Macau, is third.

Schloesser and Schaff are shooting for the TRUBall/Axcel team this indoor season. Cousins represents Shibuya CP.

The elite ranking is used to decide which archers are invited to the Indoor Archery World Series, held in the Saturday evening at the last stage of the circuit in Las Vegas. Sixteen archers in each category qualify.

There is also an open ranking on the indoor circuit.

Every archer who participates in a championship category at one of the tournaments is listed by their best three 60-arrow qualification scores.

After two events, Crispin Duenas (1189), Gabriela Bayardo (1722), Mike Schloesser (1797) and Sarah Prieels (1779) sit top. (The maximum number of points available is 1800 – three times 600 – but no recurve man has competed in all three events.)

A total of 798 archers are ranked.

The 2020 Indoor Archery World Series continues on 10-12 January at the Sydney Indoor Archery Festival in Australia.
