Luann Ryon was gold medallist at the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games, shooting then-Games records for the 1440 Round (1282) and double 1440 Round (2499) as she dominated the women‘s competition at the second Olympics since archery’s return to the multisport event.
She would also win the individual title at the world championships in Canberra one year later while leading the USA women’s team to gold.
Her last international event would be the 1983 World Archery Championships on home soil in Los Angeles, close to where she was born and lived much of her life.
Luann Ryon died on 27 December 2022, just weeks before her 70th birthday.
