26 January 2011 - Calendar of Para-Archery events 2011

Calendar of Para-Archery events 2011 Lausanne – 26 January 2011   The year 2011 will see an exciting advance in Para-Archery around the world. There will be several Para-Archery World Ranking Events as well as the World Archery Para Championships.   The events begin with a World Ranking Event (WRE) to be held from 9-15 May in Brasilia, Brazil. This event will be called "Para-Archery World Ranking Event Brasilia 2011".   Very soon after comes another international Para-Archery tournament this time in Bangkok, Thailand with the 1st Asian Paralympic Cup from 11-20 May. As its name suggests it is the first time this event will be held and to mark its importance World Archery has declared it be a para-archery WRE. More details will be given soon.   From 13-17 June the 7th Invitational Tournament will take place in Stoke Mandeville, Great Britain. Although not a WRE, this popular tournament always attracts many top archers.   One month later on 10-17 July in the beautiful city of Turin, Italy, the World Archery Para Championships will be held. This will be a very exciting event as all the top archers—and those aiming to be the best—will compete for places at the London Paralympics in 2012.   In the following month, another Para-ArcheryWRE will be held in Nymburk (CZE) from 12-18 August.   For those who did not win Paralympic places in Italy, there will be one more chance at the WRE and Paralympic Qualifying Event to be run by ArcheryGB at Stoke Mandeville from 5-9 September.   Finally, in 2011 there will be another WRE for para archers being held as part of the Para Pan America Games in Guadalajara, Mexico from 19-27 November. The final two places for men and two places for women for the London Paralympics will also be at stake—a great incentive for Member Associations in World Archery Americas to send their best para archers to those Games.   In 2011, another Para-Archerycompetition is planned, but which will not be recognised as a WRE: the Arizona Cup held from 5-10 April in Phoenix, USA.   It is not too early to be planning events leading up to the Paralympics London 2012. Archers seeking to win medals for their country will be wanting good tournaments to help their preparation.   World Archery looks forward to receiving applications for 2012 Para-Archery World Ranking Events in the build up to London. It is important to know that for NPCs (National Olympic Committees) and bodies that were organising events prior to the transfer of Para-Archery governance from IPC (International Paralympic Committee) to FITA such WRE application should now come through the FITA Member Associations. For the World Championships in Torino only entries through the Member Association are accepted. If you need any assistance to make such an application, please contact the Para-Archery Committee (chicks@para-archery.org).   Carole HICKS Para-Archery Committee World Archery Communication
